Audio system

Ive recently had an electrical/audio spike or surge delivered through my box which I contend has blown my Dolby audio chip on my Phillips CRT tv and now I can only get cable picture with no sound.
Virgin technicians are saying this is impossible and refusing to take ownership of my problem.
Can anybody out there confirm wether or not Im wasting my time disputing the issue with Virgin...Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,Phil

Re: Audio system

Yeah it's not Virgins fault your TV sound is broke cause you got an electrical spike. Contact your electrical supplier lol.

I use a surge protected socket.

Re: Audio system

You have received a spike through the mains socket not the box as that would have died otherwise.

Re: Audio system

A surge of power would have come through the electricity and not the VM box.

Re: Audio system

I'm not an electrician but my top-box does surge even when it's turned off!! Whilst watching the TV, every now and then it will switch over to the Top box channel as if receiving a signal. As I said, I'm not an expert but would be surprised if it could blow anything - "surges" do happen though.

Re: Audio system

Many thanks for everyone who came to my aid..I do understand that a electrical surge relayed through my box could cause damage to my TV but based on the other appliances on the same switch ,incl 2 lamps, there was no visible indication of any general electrical supply surge.I was only when i went into the 'catch-up' mode using my box that I got spiking picture & sound.
It was so bad that I came out of 'catch-up' prog immediately only to find my TV audio had been damaged and sound lost.
The Virgin technician who came out did say that there was an ongoing problem with 'catch-up' but was emphatic that as the box was working the tv problem was mine.
Still seems to me too much of a coincidence that the 2 issues of known prob with 'catch-up' at the time and the absence of any visible electric surge on my other appliances didnt culminate or contribute to damaging my tv.
Anyway, as a non-engineer I suppose Ive just got to accept that its my problem and try and locate a new sound processor.
Thanks again for your inputs ...Phil
