BT's high speed Infinity service, which uses fibre-to-the-cabinet technology and is currently available to 15% of the UK population, was tested for the first time by Ofcom, delivering average download speeds of 31.1Mbps, 78% of the advertised rate.
However, it was Virgin Media's cable broadband that once again performed the best, delivering between 90% and 96% of advertised speeds. Virgin Media's superfast 50Mbps package delivered an average download speed of around 46Mbps in testing.
