Help with netgear router please

Hi

Hope someone can help with this - its driving me mad and spent 4 full evenings trying to sort it.

Ive had virgin media with a Netgear router WGT624 for a long time - anyway it stopped working and so I bought another but just cannot get it to connect. Ive got the same problem with the new one as I had with the old one. Ive tried full reset on the netgear router loads of times but it makes no difference.

Here is what happens:-

I can connect wired directly from the virgin media 'black box' - ie before i do anything with the netgear wireless router.

When I connect the netgear router I can 'eventually log into the router settings' but when i follow the set up wizard it gets right to the end and then just before the point where it should say success it comes up with 'page cannot be displayed' - must have tried this around 20 times now.

Also I do not actually get an internet connection when both the virgin box and netgear are connected, i can just get onto the netgear set up page by typing routerlogin.com.

The same laptop is used on a wireless network in the office at work and i dont have any problems with this.

any ideas anyone please
thanks
Simon

Re: Help with netgear router please

Are you using wired ethernet to connect to the router? I would expect this if you are using wireless and you enter the wireless encryption key. At this point it will require a reboot.

You could also try the non virgin way into the router by typing http://192.168.1.1

The WGT routers are pretty robust and generally easy to set up.

If all that fails, call Virgin out. You are paying for this service.
