Which campaign to stop unfair card charges
Quote:
Which? claims low-cost airlines were among the worst offenders for unfair surcharges, with some levying a fee per passenger per leg of the journey, despite only having to process one transaction.
The group believes debit card transactions cost retailers no more than £0.20 and credit card payments cost less than 2% of the transaction value, but consumers are forced to pay much more.

I think it's about time something was done about this ,i can to a certain extent understand the charges for credit cards but debit cards are rapidly becoming the prefered method of payment by customers and retailers ,i certainly prefer paying by debit card for large items instead of carrying wads of cash about

Flagrant profiteering when some are charging anything up to a tenner..

Re: Which campaign to stop unfair card charges
Especially budget airlines, who charge per passenger, even when there is only one total transaction charge.

Re: Which campaign to stop unfair card charges
Good stuff. The way some retailers obfuscate prices, this being just one method, is pretty disgusting.

I got shafted by Stelios and his mob last year, I didn't pick up on it until my CC statement came through, I queried the transaction with Mastercard who said it was an authorised payment. I phoned Easy Jet who said it was a surcharge for paying on my credit card. I said you've got it this time you won't get it again. £10 for something that costs pennies.

Re: Which campaign to stop unfair card charges
There is a huge difference in charging structure.
British Airways charge on any credit card
BMI charge, but not on their own branded card
Air Canada don't charge at all.
If you're going on a scheduled airline then many code share and you can book the same flight with an alternative airline.

Re: Which campaign to stop unfair card charges
simple answer is pay with cash ...then sit back and watch the chaos
seriously though the way the airlines work doesn't favour cash at all ,and since cheques have just about been discontinued that only realistically leaves debit/credit cards
