Re: Are you a robot

I had that when I logged into my mobile account. Are they getting a bit paranoid?

Just tried logging in again and it didn't ask the question.

Seems to happen first time you log in after that the question doesn't come up.

Re: Are you a robot

It's a form of captcha\recaptcha that analyses the mouse movement and time of control to determine if you are a human or spambot

Re: Are you a robot

It could be worse by using a captcha made up of words that even a two year old draws better

Yet again VM prove what a bunch of muppets they are.

Another system thats useless and unwanted (and FF Noscript thinks is a hacking attempt).

From what I can tell it's the standard Recaptcha prompt from the underlying Google platform and nothing to do with VM. All I have to do is tick the box "I'm not a robot" but others will be prompted to do different things depending on behavioural analysis and risk. The more likely they think you are to be a robot the more they will make you do to prove you're not.

It's the standard "new" Recaptcha system used by all the big providers: http://www.wired.com/2014/12/google-...ick-recaptcha/

Unless it's a different one they use when you login to the one on the Register page, in which case I can't remember my details so I can't check it.

[Edit]

Yes, it's the standard Recaptcha used by Google, Steam, Wordpress, and everyone else. Nothing to do with VM. It'll ask you to tick pictures of cats or salads or whatever if it can't tell you're human from clicking the checkbox. It can't track mouse movements on smartphones so that's why it comes up more often there.

If Noscript thinks what is probably the world's most widely used and simplest captcha system is a hacking attempt then IMO that's Noscript's problem, and still nothing to do with VM being muppets. Plus haven't VM chosen to move away from the Google platform anyway? So proving they're quite the opposite of what you claim!

Re: Are you a robot

I dont care how "standard" it is, I dont want it, dont need it, and didnt ask for it.

Its a waste of my time (and reading around, apparently very hard to use on mobiles).

It also applies to logging into your account to view bills, irrespective of what system they may be using for e-mails.

Blame the ones trying to brute force people's logins to steal identities.

Re: Are you a robot

There are plenty of ways to tackle that without resorting to subjecting your registered uses to a stupid captcha system.

The very software we use here has the "strikes" system where 5 invalid login attempts will lock the account out for xx minutes. This is very effective at stopping brute force attacks.

Re: Are you a robot

As far as I can tell it's to prevent spam registrations only. Having a captcha after a valid login as well is... indeed strange. But I've never seen it on any login, VM or otherwise. On VM's site right now I only see it under the register link.
