V+Box with Bose Lifestyle - drops sound

Hi
I have a home cinema system consisiting of a Virgin V+Box, connected to a Bose Lifestyle sound system, and an Epson TWH5800 projector.

Sound (Bose) is connected via an optical cable. Picture (projector) is connected through an HDMI cable.

All works well until we use recorded programmes, or delay TV, from the V+Box. Rewinding, fast forwarding, or, coming out of delay TV, and the sound drops immediately and the Bose switches itself off. Picture is unaffected.

Switching on the Bose brings everything back to normal, but as you can imagine this is wearing thin after resetting 100+ times each night.

Does anyone please have any ideas ?

Many Thanks

I don't have a bose system, but it sounds to me like it's being 'clever' and detecting the optical input. If it's not there, it goes off. I just looked through the manuals online and there's no mention of it doing that however. So that's quite an odd issue.

Re: V+Box with Bose Lifestyle - drops sound

Hi
thanks for your reply.
This is a really strange problem. I actually had a whole evening two nights ago when the system performed faultlessly for four hours then the problem returned late at night.
I've had the virgin technician in since I posted. He said he had never seen anything like it before and didn't know how to deal with it. However he phoned another technician who advised that when you put the system into pause, on delayed or recorded TV, the signal (optical) disappears, and the Bose system must be picking this up and taking it as a signal to close down.
That sounded quite plausible, until I decided to see what would happen if I just pulled the optical cable out of the Virgin box - the sound disappears (obviouly) but the Bose system stays on, and, when I plug the cable back in the sounds comes back.
I just don't know if it is the Virgin box, the Bose, or, a combination of the two that's causing this. All I can say is that I did not happen with the previous Sky box, and it does not happen with the PS3 or Wi.
I recall seeing some forum comments on Virgin boxes losing sound on HD channels so I will try to find these and see what comments have been made.
I am getting quite desperate to solve this. Sorry for such a long posting and many thanks for your help.

I am having the exact same problem using Bose with the vm+. Did you ever manage to find a solution?
