Unless you are on a 50Mb connection then use speedtest.net.

This the only speed test site that I use on any call none of the others will be taken into account by our 2nd line agents as they cannot vouch for their accuracy.

Re: Speed tester

http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/ is usually very accurate for 50 meg lines, as is http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk/

I've found both to be consistently accurate, and they're quick and easy to use too.

As I said above they will always be dismissed by us as a measurement of your speed.

I have used speednet.test a few time and always seem to get better result from london than manchester and the latter is closer 50 miles.

But the OP asked which are the best, not which ones do VM accept.

The one we use is obviously the best as it is on our own internal network and not via the internet .

Placemat is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: Speed tester

Has anyone heard of www.updn.co.uk

This is one that the faults department told me to use. Seems pretty accurate and it works on the same principle of downloading a file from the Virgin Media server.

Still downloading from the blueyonder demo folder still gives the most accurate results.

Re: Speed tester

http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk gives me the most accurate results (got my full 10mbit)

20 seconds after www.updn.co.uk only gave me 7mbit

my speedtest.net graph is quite the mountain range

id like to see VM improve their routing to other countries so we dont have to keep taking these local speedtests to see what the problem is

Re: Speed tester

are you having a trouble with something?

A lot of the time people start speedtesting their connection when something isn't working - there are a lot of people on this forum that can help with any issues your having

Not really, unless you yourself have done an extensive experiment then all you're doing is repreating what the CS/TS group have been told .. Even the link I posted has VM detailing external speed tests (they also measure ping and upload) instead of the VM purely download test
