Who adds ****SPAM**** header?

Since the middle of June, Mrs P has been receiving some emails in her virgin.net mailbox that have had "****SPAM****" added to the start of the subject line. Some of the emails really are spam, others aren't.

Does anyone know what system is adding it, and can it be stopped from doing it?

Re: Who adds ****SPAM**** header?

Odd, is she running Thunderbird or just using webmail?

Re: Who adds ****SPAM**** header?

She uses Thunderbird, but the headers are also visible through webmail.

Re: Who adds ****SPAM**** header?

Any way to view the actual SMTP headers?
I think in Thunderbird you do Right Click > View Message Source.

Is there anything there which resembles "X-Spam-Status: .... "? or anything which starts with "X-"?

Don't post any header like "X-Original-To" which contains her email address.

Re: Who adds ****SPAM**** header?

I think we've cracked it then - it seems from those headers that your web host is adding to the subject line (Web Fusion).

You could look through the control panel to see if you can disable spam filtering (wouldn't recommend this), or add any senders you trust to a whitelist.

For technical info, the engine behind this looks to be SpamAssassin, a popular Linux spam filtering program - just in case you ever need to contact your host's tech support line.

Re: Who adds ****SPAM**** header?

Thought that might be the answer. Sadly there doesn't seem to be an option to disable it on virgin.net mail unless someone knows otherwise. Thanks for your anyway

Re: Who adds ****SPAM**** header?

Well, it's not Virgin's end - you need to log into your web hosting control panel (Web Fusion) or whichever reseller is providing your email account/domain name.
