V HD box and Component

Would I be able to connect a hdmi to component cable, for example this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/HDMI-Audio-V...8866316&sr=8-1
and be able to get HD display as well as audio through my BOSE speaker system, as currently, through hdmi and scart, I do not get audio when on a HD channel.
Thanks In Advance.
Matt

Re: V HD box and Component

No it won't, you'd need an active converter to change the digital HDMI signal to an analogue component one, that cable will only work if the analogue component signals are being sent over HDMI, which they won't be with a V HD box.

Re: V HD box and Component

You'd need something like this. That's at the cheap end.

Personally I'd look at why you can't get sound out on HD channels rather than using something like that as you won't be able to view any HDCP protected content.

How are your devices currently wired?

Re: V HD box and Component

Scart running from the V HD box to the BOSE, and then Scart from BOSE to TV, also HDMI from V HD box to TV. This is how it was set up and left by the Virgin engineer. He also changed the settings on the box to output via HDMI. The BOSE and V HD box works together when I am tuned to a non HD channel, as well as whether I am on AV1 or HDMI on my TV. Although when tuning to a HD Channel, for example BBC HD, picture shows in HD on the HDMI channel, yet the sound just stops.

Re: V HD box and Component

Does your speaker system have an optical audio input?
There's really no need to be using the scart connectors, you should just be able to have the HDMI from V HD to TV, and then the optical output from the V HD to your speaker system. If your speaker system has a coax spdif input rather than optical you could do the same with a optical to coax connector which would be cheaper than hdmi to component and work a lot better (as in it'd actually work for HDCP content).

Re: V HD box and Component

If you do connect it via the optical remember to turn on the HDMI Audio override otherwise you won't get the proper surround sound

Re: V HD box and Component

It may be that the audio setting on the V+ box may be wrong. On the remote press 'Home' then select option 8 'settings', select option 4 'Display and audio settings', scroll down to HDMI audio over ride and if it is set to 'on' change it to 'off' and press 'ok'. This should put out the audio on the HD channels through your TV.
