Dial-Up Access To Broadband (Cable) Email?

Hi, this may be a non-starter but here goes... I wondered if anybody knows whether it is possible to access my VM email over a dial-up connection? I have a broadband account, but a recent problem with the cable modem meant that I had no internet access for 2 days. I realised that I have an old(ish) Palm PDA which can connect via my mobile to a dial-up account and access emails. This would be handy if I suffered another problem with my home broadband or needed to access email when I cannot get to a web-connected PC. I tried phoning VM to ask, but the phones must be a bit busy this morning, so any replies would be very much appreciated!

Yes you can, but VM don't supply such a connection.. but companies like freeola do a 1p per minute dial-up though I dont know what that would be like on a VM phone.

Re: Dial-Up Access To Broadband (Cable) Email?

You should be able to receive emails from anywhere just using your standarad email account details and setting the server connection as you would for a direct connection.

Sending though would not be easy. You might need an email for that specific dial up account as email usually has to be sent from within the same network as the server connection. Thus for example you'd receive from a vm email but send out via a Palm email.

You could of course view everything via webmail.

Thanks for the replies. I'll look into the alternative ISP for dialup. I may also consider a PAYG mobile broadband option too.
