Cable Info

I plan on running RJ45 - UTP cable throughout my house etc. I have experience doing this before.
Anyway thats not the issue. I am trying to find some decent cable boxes etc. Ideally i want the ones that go on the outside of the wall (like the phone sockets) as i dont really want to have to hack out walls etc. So some suggestions would be brill! Thats my main issue

How well do cables play near copper heat pipes? I'm thinking of slinging foam insulation around them etc.

I will only be running CAT5E cable as i don't see the need for CAT6 and its a bugger to wire into the jacks anyway

Any other issues i should look out for etc?

Depends on how many you want. Last time I needed a few surface mounted ports I got them from screwfix.

Would you mind linking me to the wall ports etc that you used. Mostly because the ones we use to use at work where plain rubbish and used to fall apart.

Only times I had stuff fail is due to user abuse i.e. something being rammed against the socket pushing the connected cable into the face plate.

We use these lot. Very good and the Excel stuff is what we go for.

Blimey - if you don't get flush ones, how do you deal with when the missus wants to put something flush to the exact wall you've put one on?

It's dead easy to repair the wall with some chicken wire, filler and the paint you used... even more ideal if you own the house (a pleasure I don't have!).

Cables are fine near any sort of pipework, as long as they're not close enough to get hot (fire risk, not technical).
