Flickr - Downloading

Hi,

Is there a quick way to download a photo set from Flickr?

I don't really want to waste an hour doing one by one!

Re: Flickr - Downloading

ask the owner of the photos if they'll send them to you. if you don't have their permission, it's not on to just download their images. this is of course assuming you are just looking to get someone's images without them knowing....

There's quite a lot of them and what's the point - he's already uploaded them to Flickr - whats the point in uploading (sending them to me)?

Thanks for the lesson in copywrite. If you don't want people to view them then what's the point in uploading them in the first place?

If I view all of them, the file is written into the IE / FF cache - whats the diffrence if I just download them all into a folder of my choice in a more controlled way?

And I've just found an app called Downloadr which has done the trick - 280MB worth of photos at the click of a button.

Re: Flickr - Downloading

full of respect for peoples time and work I see. People upload so that others can view, not steal and use. that's why the artists will usually ensure their images are covered by a creative commons agreement or a reserved rights.

might I suggest you read the below link and respect whichever commons the artist has attributed to his or her work.

http://www.flickr.com/creativecommons/

if they have an All Rights Reserved on their images, respect that too.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_rights_reserved

there's your lesson. now go and learn it. just because a digital image isn't physical in digital form does not mean it isn't stealing. Most good artists will have a way for you to purchase their images. contact them and ask. it doesn't take much effort.

I see you've completly ignored my comment about caching and download to a particular folder.

When it's required I am yes.

Who says I'm stealing? You've no idea what the content is for starters - you are just making assumptions now.

I had to untick CC to get them to display in the download app.

No need to talk to me about CC and copywrite - I know exactly what the score is with those two issues (trust me on that one) and I don't need some wiki link to tell me what I need to know.

Re: Flickr - Downloading

Be reasonable. I'm not trying to argue. Stop being so Agressively defensive. It makes you look guilty. At the end of the day, unless the producer of the work has given you permission to hold a permanent copy of the work, be that by general statement that their work is for stock use, an email, phone call or whatever, it's essentially stealing. Just because your browser might cache an image does not mean you are allowed to keep it. There's no real harm in it if it's purely to keep in digital form only for you as say a desktop background, but if you plan to use it in another form, be it as contributing work for an alternate piece or printing, et cetera, you should really seek agreement. But then you know that. Allegedly. at least ask for respects purposes. It doesn't cost anything to ask. I'm not going to argue this with you as it's you who looks bad here. I just think a little politeness and respect for the original artist goes a long way. If they've said you can use it then great.

Re: Flickr - Downloading

You are reading way to much into this. And I'm not being aggressive - all I asked if there was an app to do it and you was the one that started on about CC / copywrite and the likes. I'm not guilty of anything!

Although you are correct in say I just wanted them for desktop wallpaper.

The guy who took the photos probably should'nt have even had a camera with him at the time.

Re: Flickr - Downloading

Not really reading into it as it is fairly simple. Whoever took the photo or made the image owns the rights to it, regardless of whether they should have had a camera or not. That's not justification. Projection of guilt does not make it ok.

But if you're happy and confident that they have given consent, then good. You wouldn't want to look like an a-hole for theft of intellectual property or the such. That's never a good look.

Re: Flickr - Downloading

I've asked owner of the photographs if I can copy them to a folder and have occasional use of them as desktop wallpaper.

He said yes. Happy now?

Re: Flickr - Downloading

I was happy from the start. It makes no odds to me.

All I said was that it was only right you ask the owner and maker of images if you can make your own copy of them and use them if they have not already given consent via a CC agreement.

I don't see why you appear to have thought this so unreasonable.

As for the agressively defensive attitude followed up by your pedantic comments, well they just seem to lend themself to someone who knows they are in the wrong and have become slightly embarrased about the fact. I could be wrong and am willing to accept that could be the case, but it is a very common trait that most people exhibit in said situation. Doesn't mean it applies to all cases of course.

Have a nice day lee.

Re: Flickr - Downloading

ROFL! Embarrased? What - becuase I've downloaded a few photos from Flickr and thought they looked nice - saved them to my hard drive for future use as desktop wallpaper? Don't be stupid....

Give me a break. I'm sure most - if not everybody on here has done that before. You are talking complete rubbish now.

Re: Flickr - Downloading

Shields up!! Attaaaaack!!!

My point is, were you to have been asking for a way or place to download ms office to use without the owners knowledge (microsoft), then you would likely find the thread would be closed and you'd be expected to get an agreement from MS (or license) to use it. What is so different in this case? Someone else has produced something you want to use. If they haven't said 'anyone can use this for whatever they want without restriction' or something to a similar ends, then where is the harm in asking? Flickr is not designed as a free stock site. There are other sites for that with great images free to use for whatever purpose.

But if the person who took the photo or made the image has agreed you can use it (which you say they have) then there is no issue, is there? Therefore you don't need to keep trying to defend your corner. Use the image and enjoy it...

I am interested to find out what you think I am saying is so unreasonable that it appears on the verge of causing you offence, however.

Don't know if it is any help but other members public photos on Flikr can now be downloaded you your own gallery. I have had one of mine copied to a couple of other peoples galleries. Perhaps were you to do the same you could access them whenever you needed.

It's copyright, not copywrite.

No - I know what you are saying and I agree to some extent. All was asking was if there was a way to download them automaticaly and now we've got to this stage!

I don't see what the issue is downloading some and using them as personal desktop wallpaper.

If I'm going to copy / use them in other ways then I would seek permission from the copyright holder in the first instance.

(Copyright - yes sorry a complete typo by me!)
