The shape of things to come? I hope not. I read the Times website on a daily basis, but I really don't see myself paying for it. It's not that £2 a week seems unreasonable for what you get, it's just that I'm cheap I suppose, and there's so many other news sites out there.

Personally, I think there's no comparison between Sky and The Times.

As Murdoch owns SKY it makes you wonder if that will be next for online content charging.

Reading the comments on that article, something struck me.

This will probably mean that all the morons who find it necessary to leave ill-informed bigoted bile in the comment boxes on the site will leave overnight. I'm thinking that alone might be worth £2 a week

There's plenty of other, better news sources out there.

Anybody got any data on the readership base compared to other News Int. sites?

I used to work for Murdoch at his American magazine TV Guide. I respected his balls. It is a pity to see them gone.

Re: (Sunday) Times to charge for website from June.

I think that people should remember that all that free news will either go away or continue the trend of recycled press releases. You need to make money to provide decent news, you need journalists whose full time job is to be journalists and investigate and report the news. You also need area specialists, experts in the regions/subjects they cover.

Anonymous blogger reporting on matters 1000s of miles away with no prior experience of the issue, and no sources, will not report proper news. What's more they are often biased. How many decent bloggers on the Middle east, with an objective view point, biased near/in Israel, and with a expert knowledge of the history of the region are there?
