R.I.P. Alex Chilton

This is actually old news, as he passed away last week, but I still think it's worthy of a thread.

Alex Chilton was the front man of the Box Tops who had a number one hit with The Letter in the 60s. Chilton was 16 at the time. He never went on to replicate that commercial success, but had a loyal following in his subsequent career, and is cited by many musicians (such as REM) as a major influence on their work.

I remember The Letter by The Boxtops. A great number that has stood the test of time and which should be regarded as a Classic of it's kind IMO.

RIP Alex.

Great stuff, I hadn't heard that before. It's true, they just don't make 'em like that any more.

The cover by Garbage was just that I thought.

Hard to make out it was the same song. Really brings home the real reason why the record labels are on their uppers.
