Bye Bye Bebo?

Apparantly, AOL is no longer willing to fund Bebo. The network, which has always seemed to be just a shadow of myspace has failed to generate a significant number of users, and has actually been declining over the last few months..
AOL are looking at two options. Selling Bebo, or writing off the entire $850 million they spent on it, and closing it at the end of next month.

My girls and all of their friends use Bebo. I've tried to get them to switch to FB and while 2 have created FBs they rarely use them.
What will the neds do now??

Bebo was a lot more targetted towards younger people I think. It really couldnt compete with Facebook.

My daughters and their friends started on bebo - but then they grew up and moved to facebook.

I think that's their problem there. Targeting kids and young teenagers. These are the sort of people who will use something just because their friends use it, thus making it the next big thing. They will, if necessary, pressure their parents to spend a lot of money on it.
Of course, the problem is that they soon move on to the next next big thing, and forget about the original. To some extent, I think that MySpace is suffering from the same thing.
Facebook hasn't suffered that because while it was (for a while) the next big thing for teenagers, older people have actually started to use it as a communications platform.
