VM's TV To Be Available Off Network?

Hi all, Merry Christmas and happy new year and all that to everyone.
Now, this may be old news or not very relevent, but has anyone heard much about VM's tv service being made available via broadband to those not fortunate enough to live in cabled area's?

This would really be good news for a lot of people, myself included as I used to live in a cabled area, but have recently moved, just when all the HD stuff and 50meg broadband started up.

I'm currently with BT, and am actually happy with the service, but if I had the option of VM I'd take it. And I imagine the above mentioned is more likely than the path outside my house being dug up any time soon.

this is good news I wonder if it could be expanded.

Current existing subscribers being allowed to temporary use it on holiday etc by ordering it.

I wonder if they looking to have service on mobile phones to boot.

It's not off network, it's just a different type of last mile network that's still hooked in to VM's backhaul.

Essentially it's the same as now, except instead of the street cabinets being coax to the premises it'll be copper phone lines, and instead of docsis it's vdsl.

You'll still need to be in an area where VM has a physical presence, it won't be enough to simply have a broadband connection. The benefit of this though is it seems like VM are working with 3rd parties to provide coverage, so a 3rd party could subsidise connecting up an area, where VM wouldn't have otherwise had the funds to do so.

3rd party expansion and profit sharing on the VM network is likely to be how it's expanded in future as it makes a fair bit of sense to VM as they won't have to take on the burden of more debt.

Well that's a shame. I've checked my surrounding post codes and none of them have cable in the area.
Oh well, I'll stick with BT. The broadband speed is great, as I'm really near the exchange, and I suppose with freeview hd starting soon I won't miss VM too much.... But I do...
