Whats the difference between a Rat and a Croc

In the Tv show Celebrity etc, Stuart and Gino, killed and eat a rat, now they are being charged with CRUELTY in Australia by the RSPCA, for doing that, even though a croc was killed, so that they could eat the tongue in a trial, how bloody farcial is that.

There is a point where you have to say, how stupid is that, a Rat is what is killed by the SAS for survial, and yet a Croc is a killer, what is going on.

To kill any creature for the sake of alleged entertainment is a heinous crime in my eyes.

Mind you, inflicting trash like Celebrity whatever on the airwaves is also a heinous crime.

So I say, line 'em all up and shoot the damn lot of 'em. The World will be a better place.

Ha ha well said Mick, I think the Australian RSPCA are correct in hitting the roof, the rat was a captive bread rat which would have been disease free. I mean come on as if they are going to let wild rats run free where there are people sleeping and eating???

The whole show is a con right from the start, some of the so called celebs who were in there deserved to be left in there until next year, Jordan being one of them.

Right, so we're allowed to eat meat, just not allowed to be entertained by watching someone eat meat?

OK.

l read tonight, that Gino and Stuart could face up to THREE YEARS in prison for what they did, but how pathetic is that, rats are vermin, but when you think someone killed the croc, and this is a PROTECTED animal in Aussie land, and someone killed it so they could eat the tongue.

I think it's dodgy grounds to be entertained by people killing animals, not the eating part of it. The ambiguity here is because it's a rat, a unlikable animal, if they were shooting down birds for entertainment then there would be more uproar.

Incidentally for the purposes of education it might be understandable to kill an animal for a TV show. Say a show about nature or where our food comes from as these are likely animals that would be killed anyway, humanly, and a tv camera simply films it.

Re: Whats the difference between a Rat and a Croc

Arthur crocodiles maybe a protected species but they are also farmed in Australia for their skins and meat. The crocodile tongue that the contestants ate will presumably have come from a farm in the same way you get beef from farms in this country.

Re: Whats the difference between a Rat and a Croc

Had croc last time I was in Oz, was part of a lunch on an organized wine tour.. Never though had rat but if it's a rat bred for food and not a wild rat then I don't suppose I would have an issue with it..

Killing a rat on TV for food.. what's the difference between this and the programs earlier this year showing turkeys and chicken stunned and then killed in the "Where does your food come from" style programs????

Bugger all difference as far as I'm concerned Kymmy. Looks like a typical liberal, tree hugger, bunny lover, over-reaction to bugger all in a teacup....

Re: Whats the difference between a Rat and a Croc

I am not a vegetarian by a long shot so I'm having problems deciding what I feel about the rat being killed and eaten. One side of me says that killing the rat for food was just this side of acceptable.

The other side of me feels that no animal should be killed in this way just to titillate an audience. These contestants weren't starving, merely bored with their diet.

If we all had to personally slaughter the animals we eat maybe we would all eat less meat which I understand would go a fair way to easing our problems with global warming ... another thread I know.

Re: Whats the difference between a Rat and a Croc

I regulary go up the fields we own and shoot a few rabbits (that's when the dogs don't catch them first!!!!) have no qualms about skinning, gutting and then freezing or smoking the meat.. We are omnivores.. But I respect veggies in thier choices (my partner is even a veggie)

In this case if the rat was eaten and not wasted (never watched the program so no clue if it was all eaten) then there's no issue, but if not then they deserve to be covered in marmite then put in a room filled with starving rats..

Not ALL rats are vermin, and I think Lew would also agree

Re: Whats the difference between a Rat and a Croc

Rats are vermin, an infestation that blights cities and the countryside in all parts of the world. As said there aint nothing wrong with a bit of rat on the menu, it wasnt wasted and apparently made a tasty risotto and a delicasy in some parts of the world and that includes the indigeonus Aboriginies, what they gonna do start haulling all them off to court as well? Bunch of no good do gooders need their heads banging together.

I dont think the rat was planted so they would kill it to feed themselves it was probrably put there so if the opportunity arose would they use it as food. Was the rat bred specifically for food? If so whats the problem, all ITV have to say is that they bred a dozen or so for use in the show to scare the contestants or for them to use as food.

What's the difference between a rat and a croc?

If there was a rat in the kitchen, I would try to chase it out..........
