A very interesting (some might say controversial) article by Mark Steel.
"At one point we were there to stop the opium, then to install democracy, now to prevent terrorist attacks in Britain. Next week he'll tell us the Taliban must be defeated as emissions from burqas are the greatest cause of climate change, or the plan is to buy the Taliban with public money until Afghanistan is back on its feet, and sell off the profitable sections such as Jihad training camps at a rate that makes sound economic sense."
We will never achieve anything militarily until the politicians can decide exactly why the hell we are there and this changing story that surrounds afghanistan is half the reason our troops are not properly supported and the afghans themselves are not being helped as much as they should be. This government should hang it's collective head in shame for what it has done both in afghanistan and iraq as they didn't and still don't seem to have a damn clue what we're doing.

Reminds me of the way the argument for ID cards has 'developed' over time......
Afghanistan? Why are we there, why did we go in the first place, what are the plans for the future..........No use asking Brown, he's never had a clue and just makes it up as he goes along.
