Need Help! Looking for Jerrold Cable Equipment on Virgin Media Networks
Hi, I was wondering if anyone across the UK could tell me if Virgin Media are, or ever did, use the Jerrold Decoder system to encrypt their analogue television networks?
This system would have been widely used on cablenets since the late 80's, and is still used today in some parts of the world.
If possible, I need to know where they were used geographically, and which companies operated them if prior to Virgin Media. Also, is there anywhere that they are still operational in the UK?
And most importantly, does anyone know where I could source this equipment which includes, the Jerrold decoder (550 Model), the MVP encryption units, and the Jerrold Addressable Control Computer (ACC-2000)?
Alot of this equipment would have been decommisioned from Cable headends, during the Analogue to Digital changeover.
Thanks!

This equipment is still in use today afaik, and more importantly is property of Virgin Media in most cases. What I want to know is why you would want to get your hands on this equipment for anything other than illegitimate purposes (which is not to be discussed here)

From the OP, I'd assume he is not in the UK.

Regardless, I think it's still a valid question

Re: Need Help! Looking for Jerrold Cable Equipment on Virgin Media Networks
I'm in Ireland and I work for a small family owned cablenet. We have been using this system on our network for nearly 20 years, and have been finding it difficult to source this stuff since Jerrold merged with SA and left us high and dry. We have no financial prospect of delivering a Digital Platform for quite some time and we're trying maintain the network we have.
I've been able to source MVP's from Japan ( who use PAL-I) and an ACC from the states, and have been sourcing decoders from NTL/chorus here in Ireland, but I can no longer get them. The UK is obviously PAL-I like ourselves so I'm sure there is a warehouse somewhere with these units simply waiting to be dumped which we'd be more than willing to take off their hands.

Indeed not, he's from exactly where he says he is.

Re: Need Help! Looking for Jerrold Cable Equipment on Virgin Media Networks
Virgin still use Jerrold set top boxes in various parts of the country that cannot get Digital TV as I still see them on accounts, I could not say which models they are though.
I would say that you need to contact Virginmedia direct unless the Moderators are able to pass on a request for you to their high level contacts within Virginmedia.

Re: Need Help! Looking for Jerrold Cable Equipment on Virgin Media Networks
I know that the ex-CableTel regions of VM (Belfast, Glasgow, Huddersfield, Surrey, Cardiff, Luton) use the Jerrold system for analogue, but not sure if there are that many left 'switched on'. They use the ACC4000 to control the convertors, which are CFT2000 & CFT 2100 by General Instruments
Luton franchise still has analogue running at present, and this is due to be switched off in Q2 of 2010.
Not sure if this helps, but good luck

Re: Need Help! Looking for Jerrold Cable Equipment on Virgin Media Networks
When an analogue cust switches to digital Virginmedia do not collect the old jerrold boxes they ask the cust to dispose of them in an environmentally friendly way. So I don’t think there will be a warehouse full of them.

Re: Need Help! Looking for Jerrold Cable Equipment on Virgin Media Networks
I can help with the ACC2000 / ACC4000 as we make a replacement known as the SCS1000 works like the ACC2000 but has a windows based OS.. note does NOT have Two way or IPPV..
The MVP's and decoders I could work on, how many do you need ?

As a note we can repair ACC4000 or replace if needed.
