Dell PC for my mum !

Hi all

I would like to get a Dell desktop pc for my mum and wondered want people would recommend up to about £400.

Any ideas

I really don't think you would go far wrong with this..

I am of course assuming mum is not a master gamer, or video editor in her spare time..

best to keep to dell . pay a bit more for 9,9/10. no problems
fans are low sound ( no drill sound ) i got 2 pcs . a dual and quad core .
the only thing is not a lot of pci ports, on mother boards i got.
Aldi read there pc fook up and most dont work out of box.

upgrade that to the dual core celeron 20 inch screen and upto 3 gig of ram its comes in at 405 should suit

mind you for 400 quid I could most like supply a dual core amd machine larger hdd 4 gig ram and a 22 in screen

Thanks for all the advice.............

If I go for a dell would people recommend I get pre-installed AV or could I set up and then download AVG ?

Talking of set up mum currently has Windows XP is it easy with Vista to set things up ir internet/email accounts ???

It's easy but if you wait a week or so it should come pre installed with Windows 7, although you should get a free upgrade.

Unless they offer a good anti-virus, I wouldnt bother paying extra for Norton or anything like that.

Your best bet is buying the system and then before you connect it to the net, burn a DVD on your own PC with installation files for antivirus, firewall, drivers, updates, etc.

Windows 7 is the latest Microsoft OS that will replace Vista. It's due for release on 22nd October 2009, but its likely if you get a Dell it'll come with it either pre installed or a free upgrade.
