Gadget behaviour in Windows 7

Hello.

I currently run Vista on my laptop. It has a 16:9 screen so I've got plenty of width space for a row of gadgets on the right of my screen. I've set sidebar to always occupy this portion of the screen.

Having played around on Windows 7, it seems this behaviour cannot be replicated as you either have to have the gadgets permanently on top (not great, as a maximised IE window is partially obscured) or show the desktop everytime you want to see them (a waste of time when I've got the screen space to spare).

Does anyone now a way round this or in fact, how to put sidebar on Vista?

Thanks a lot.
