Is is worth getting a netbook or laptop for £300 budget
I have a budget of £300 to buy a laptop or netbook and wondered what is the best for me. I am basically looking for something I can play online poker with upload pic's and watch live boxing on box office through internet. Have another pc in house for all downloading of music/films etc just want something that will do the job nicely.
Will I get better spec for the money with a netbook or maybe is it worth going for a second hand laptop with good spec not really sure.
Please help....

Don't forget that netbooks don't have a CD/DVD drive.
I have the Samsung NC10 great bit of kit.

Both a laptop and netbook will do what you want.
The question you have to ask yourself is size.
Laptops have bigger screens so you will be able to watch it bigger than you will on the netbook.
The netbook however will be easy to put in your bag if you need to take it on the train, to work, etc.

If you want to watch something online go for a lappy as they have the bigger screen.

Shouldn't be anything wrong with 2nd hand gear aslong as you make sure it's been looked after.

There are some good laptops around for between £300 and £400 - my Mother-in-Laws was £349 and it has 2gb RAM, decent processor, wifi, webcam, card reader etc so fair package in my opinion. Try Tesco/Asda or places like that

I have this one http://direct.asda.com/Emachines-Lap...efault,pd.html I paid £287 at ASDA Living but it has gone down to £247 now. It's a good laptop, I upgraded the RAM to 3GB myself in mine though

It supports up to 4GB and I think I spent about £20 on a 2GB stick from crucial

Re: Is is worth getting a netbook or laptop for £300 budget
If you're looking for something just to sit on your lap at home, get a low spec laptop.
If you want to cart it around in your bag, get a netbook.
Personally, I would highly recommend a good netbook. I have an Advent 4211 (a re-badged MSI Wind), and recently I purchased a 7800mAh battery for it for £50 online on top of what I paid for it (nothing, as I got it on a Vodafone mobile broadband contract). Takes the battery life up to 8hrs. Bloody perfect.
The other thing too is whether or not you want mobile broadband. Getting one on a mobile broadband contract can be a very good deal if you're going to pay for mobile broadband anyway!
(Posting from my Advent 4211 in O'Neills in Soho... all very mobile )
