PC Guard

Hi

I'm new to this site and sorry if I'm in the wrong place. I have PC Guard which seems to be working and I don't appear to have a problem with my pc however Microsoft Security Centre tells me that my I have no antivirus turned on. I phoned Virgin a couple of times and was told I had to contact Microsoft. Are Virgin saying Microsoft don't recognise PC Guard but my antivirus is working or are they saying I have no antivirus and it's up to Microsoft to sort it out!!!

Re: PC Guard

What exactly does the Security Centre report? That it isn't turned on or that it is reporting in a format no longer supported?

I presume you are using Vista so ensure that you have upgraded to Service Pack 2 on the Microsoft website and everything should be ok.

Re: PC Guard

Try this - it resets the Security Center

1. Open a Command Prompt by clicking on Start->Run, enter "CMD.EXE" , and click on the OK button. The Command Prompt window will appear.

2. In the Command Prompt window, type "NET STOP WINMGMT /Y" and press Enter.

3. Type "REN %WINDIR%\SYSTEM32\WBEM\REPOSITORY %WINDIR%\SYSTEM32\WBEM\REP.OLD" and press Enter.

4. Type "EXIT" at the Command Prompt to close the window.

5. Reboot

EDIT: That is for Vista, but it should also work for XP

Re: PC Guard

Thanks very much for trying but it didn't work. The first line worked ie "NET STOP WINMGMT/Y" but when I typed in the second line it came up with - file name directory name or volume label syntax is incorrect. Tried it twice and double checked I'd typed it in right.

I'm getting worried that Microsoft is actually blocking my antivirus and it's not working or is that stupid.

Re: PC Guard

Try it again and instead of typing the commands, try copying and pasting from Ben's post? Hope this helps

Re: PC Guard

As long as your sure your AV is working then I wouldnt worry, Windows is crap at detecting AV - mine (McAfee) is working fine, and has been for years, but windows has yet to detect it.

Smile Re: PC Guard

Hi

Thanks very much, I'm pretty certain it's working ok but I thought perhaps it would be wise to check with folk who are a bit more computer knowledgeable.
