Question Mailbox Quota

Hi everyone,

I'm getting frustrated at receiving "Your mailbox is full" messages from admin. I'm using ntlworld email addresses (if that's relevant) and the first gripe is that the warning email doesn't actually specify which of my addresses the problem relates to (I have previously established from both Tech Support and this forum) that the limit applies to each address and is not shared amongst those in your account.

The main point however is that I'm not convinced that there should be a problem ! The attachements that are being sent are JPG images around 10Mb. Initially I had assumed that this was the problem as I was under the impression that each mailbox was limited to 10Mb. Having contacted Tech Support I was advised that the mailbox quota was actually 30Mb. A colleague then sent some test images limiting the attachement size to 9-10Mb. Rejections still occurred.

Having read similar threads I'd checked that my Draft and Trash folders as well as my Inbox were empty which there were.

I'm using Outlook (on XP Pro) and this issues a Send/Receive request every 5mins so there is little chance of a "backlog" building up on the server.

I also notice that the warning message implies a 10Mb quota :-
Details:
Quota Type: bytes in the message
Quota Available: 10240000
Total Quota: 10240000
... even though on webmail it states :-
You are using 0% of your mailbox (0 KB out of 30 MB)

I have spoken to Technical Support who advise that there isn't a limit for an attachment and it is the mailbox quota that determines what messages are rejected.

As such I have a strong gut feeling that all is not working as designed. I'd prefer not to setup a gmail account to bypass this as on the face of it I shouldn't need to !

Does anyone have any similar problems or have definitive information as to how the mailbox quotas are managed ?

Re: Mailbox Quota

Well from my experience what Technical Support are telling you is all wrong.
There is a file message size limit which is 10Mb in total.
When a message gets sent there are extra bits added to it. I would suggest a maximum send size of around 7.5Mb to keep within the maximum.
Apart grom Google I do not know of anybody else that allows for a message size larger than 10Mb.

There's another thread on this, but basically your mailbox is trying to receive an email that matches or slightly goes over 10Mb in size, and that is the message you get when the email can't be delivered to your mailbox.

I'll get the thread....hang on.

Here you go.

http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/80/33652790-is-this-legitimate-or-a-scam-new-post.html

What that means is even if you have not used your email quota, you can't accept an email over 10Mb in size.
