Lost FTP access

I have not been able to gain FTP access to my ntlworld website for a week. Until then the service had been working perfectly for many years.
I have not altered any settings since it was working fine. But all I get now when I try to connect is a message saying “Cannot connect to server: ftp://upload.ntlworld.com/detectives. Reason: can not connect to FTP. (608)”. This was using GoLive CS with an iMac. I have also tried using other ftp clients (such as Cyberduck) but get a similar result.
I can still access other servers without any problem.
Could this be a service fault with ntl/virgin?

Re: Lost FTP access

Moved to 'Webspace, EMail & Browsing Issues' as this is unlikely to be a Cable TV issue.....

Re: Lost FTP access

I had this problem, upload.ntlworld.com ftp was not accepting my password so I logged into selfcare, (http://selfcare.virginmedia.com) and went on change primary email password and saved it as the same thing and then it let me in.

Re: Lost FTP access

I have this on & off all the time with my ntlworld FTP, it'll work one day, won't the next, will the next (not that I actually use it every day, just an example!)

Re: Lost FTP access

Many thanks for the replies.
I've tried phoning 150 five times - but no helpful response from either India (major communications difficulties here) or Swansea. The Swansea man said that they did not offer FTP support. He said that my website was in order and he could access it in FTP. So there was nothing he could do. I also emailed customer help 5 days ago but never got an answer beyond an automated acknowledgement of my message. I've now written to Customer Complaints at Swansea asking if they could check out my connection to make certain there was no fault their end. They have not yet had time to reply.

I have tried changing my primary email password - but I'm afraid this did not help!

---------- Post added at 14:28 ---------- Previous post was at 13:25 ----------

I've now tried accessing upload:ntlworld.com on another computer 3 miles away - and it too just gets an "Unexpected null reply received", using Cyberduck. So it surely can't be my computer at fault!

Re: Lost FTP access

Open explorer and:

ftp://username:password@upload.ntlworld.com

username and password should be your own

Or try telnet

Start > run > cmd
Type telnet and enter.
Type o and enter.
Type upload.ntlworld.com and enter
Type user name and enter.
Type password and enter.

Post error message here if you get one.

Re: Lost FTP access

Explorer gives me the message: "A connection failure has occurred".
I have no previous experience of using telnet, but downloaded MacTelnet, did what you said, and ended up with the messages: "Trying 62.253.162.92 ...", followed by "Unable to connect to remote host".

Re: Lost FTP access

I'd say your IP range isn't being accepted. Sadly my friend you'll have to go through to tech support.

151 from a VM phone, if you call at 8am its more likely you'll get through to a UK center.
