I am thinking about getting virgin media as a broadband back up to my adsl BT link so I will be running two ISPs through my router (BT provide me with a static IP address for my email) hasd anyone tried this? Anything to think about? Ia m going to use a Vigor 2820 router

You'll need a router with two WAN ports and capable of load balancing for that to work properly. Most of these types of routers have an option to use the second link as a backup or to use them load balanced, depending on what you want it to do.

yeah the vigor does that but I wasn't sure about the IP address or whether anyone had actually tried using a combination of dsl and adsl through the vigor

Don't forget you have a 28 days cancellation period with Virgin Media so if it doesn't work you can cancel, you should get it working or not with 28 days.

I've tried this. It works quite well. I used an Asus WL-500G premium with DD-WRT firmware and configured it for dual wan. Configuring the firmware was quite tricky though.
The only problem with running two connections is that you get two ip addresses. So some websites that remember you based on your ip sometimes see you as two different people.
