VM Wireless Issues

Hi...sorry if what i'm about to ask has been asked and answered a million times, but i couldn't find it, and i've been looking since 5pm!

Right, got a wireless router from virgin (Netgear). First off the installation wizard didn't work properly...i put the disk into the drive, the first bit went OK, but when the wizard properly started up and i had to click on a picture to get to the next page, there was no pic, just a blank box with the RGB symbols in the corner. So i rang them, and that's when they told me i needed a wireless adapter (which they didn't tell me when i ordered the router (yes, i'm that tech savvy! ),so i went and got myself a 'TP-LINK 54M wireless USB adapter (TL-WN321G). It's been a bit tricky getting it all going without the CD, but i think i finally cracked it...well, i got onto the Netgear login/config page anyway! That was telling me that i had an internet connection when i clicked 'test'...but that was the only page that i could get up...grrr!

I had it wired up correctly earlier, and my adapter icon was a lovely bright green the whole time...however i hadn't restarted my PC then, so couldn't get the Netgear page up. When i did restart it, i got the Netgear page up and running, but my now adapter keeps flicking on and off.

So it seems i can't win. Is it the adapter that's rubbish, or my router? Or just virgin? Have i explained it properly? I'm tearing my hair out!

Thanks in advance for your help/advice/sledgehammer.

Re: VM Wireless Issues

OK assuming that your TP Link adaptor has its own set up disk make sure it is installed and then try the instructions below.

---------------------------------------------------

First you need to fully uninstall the software from your computer, by first going to the system tray by the clock on desktop and exiting the wireless manager, then go to start > control panel >unistall programs> now unistall the wireless manager from here then exit .

Next ensure the router is on and take a pen or a paperclip and look on the back of the router and you will see a small round hole big enough for the pen to go into press the reset button in this hole for approx 10 seconds then switch off the router and modem

------------------------------------------------------------

Quick router set up for the V9

connect your laptop direct to the router in port 1to 4>open internet explorer>in the address bar put http://192.168.1.1/ when the login screen appears put in the username : virgin and the passphrase : password> the Netgear router page will now appear, down the left side click on Wireless settings>now name your network, something you remember and replace the passphrase with a new one at least 8 characters long and click apply, wait for it to finish updating and close the page.

disconnect cable from laptop and router, ensure inbuilt wireless switched on, go to system tray and look for connect to a network icon ( not the virgin icon ) click it and find your network name, click connect put in your passphrase and when it says connected open a browser page and you should be connected.
