Laptop problems..

Hi guys, my Mum is having issues with her laptop in that sometimes it locks up solid requiring a hard reboot. Then it wont turn on properly, i.e the fan spins full speed but there is no video, and i just have to leave it for a while for it to work properly.

Laptop spec:

HP NC6000

Pentium M 1.6GHz
512mb RAM
120GB hdd (nearly new)
Win XP Pro.

Cheers.

Re: Laptop problems..

I would suspect it's either (a)overheating or (b)there's a faulty motherboard or processor.

Does she get any "beeps" at startup? They signify bios error codes (ie 3 beeps in quick succession is a video issue usually).

Re: Laptop problems..

That's quite an old laptop. I'd suggest it's probably choked up with dust and fluff which is causing overheating issues. Get a can of dry air and give it a good blow through. You'll probably want to do that outdoors..
