Re: Intel or AMD

If you swap to AMD you'll have to swap your motherboard too.

Re: Intel or AMD

Personally I'd stick with Intel, I'm not much of a fan of AMD like I used to be since the Core2's and the i7's came out. I like the easy overclocking ability of an Intel these days.

Re: Intel or AMD

stick with the intel the only advantage that you would think, from swapping to the amd would be the unlocked multiplier but stick with the intel they overclock better and perform better aswell.

Re: Intel or AMD

well i dont overclock as i have never got into overclocking so that means nothing to me. So unless someone wants to walk me through overclocking mine it will never be overclocked.

From what zing has said then i take it the amd and intel are just as good as each other ??

Re: Intel or AMD

Phenom II are equal to the Q6 . The Q9 and i7 still surpass but you pay for it

As for duals the Pentium dual core I would rule out the newer E8 cpus beat the x2 but again you pay a premium. You already have a E6 the x2 even being black edition is not an upgrade. If you went with a Phenom II it would be

Damien as the market develops things change along the way Intel on the whole are better but price for price AMD can hold their own again somewhat

Re: Intel or AMD

Currently, Intel are leading the way for performance and gaming abilities with Core 2 and Core i7. If you want a single processor computer, then AMD are the way to go. Anything else, you want Intel at this time.

If you want an AMD that is equal to an Intel processor in dual or quad cores, you'll be paying a lot more for it. Plus I believe Intels have a higher temperature threshold.

That is far to sweeping a statement.

the core i7 has no benefit over older cpus in gaming. The only Intel cpus that beat the AMD cpus are £100 more than the AMD high end range

AMD offer a much more cost efficient way of getting a high performance pc with the Phenom IIs dont under estimate them

Why waste your money needlessly, stick with the intel.

what?

The phenom II quads will easily perform as well as the entry level Intel quads to get a better Intel cpu you have to spend more than the most expensive Phenom II so how is it a waste of money? Also bang for buck Intel based mobos are more expensive than the AMD counterpart so again how is it a waste of money? To do justice to an Intel Quad core build over an AMD Quad based system you need to spend at least £150 more so again how is it a waste of money?

I think some of ya have not kept up and still think its just after the launch of Conroe well time has passed and AMD has made inroads in the market. A dual core AMD based system is more than adeqate for anyone who isnt encoding all day or rendering big pictures or graphics and when matched with a good GFX is perfectly good enough for a gamer
