Samsung STB changes channl on it's own.
Hi, been a while since I've been on, I guess everything has been working ok!
Well I currently have a problem with my samsung STB (located in the bedroom), only use it occassionally, but every time we use it, we'll be watching a show and it decides to keep changing channel. This means the wife goes up the wall, so I need to try and sort it out. I've tried numerous resets, powering off all the usual things.
Has anyone else suffered this problem or have any suggestions on how to fix it.
Thanks
Dave

I had the same problem once and it boiled down to low batteries in one of the remotes. The TV remote and volume control was turning over the STB channels. Give that a whirl.

Could be interference from an energy saving bulb?

We have it change channel with the energy saving bulbs - quite bizarre. Turn on the bedside light and the channel changes, turn it off and there it goes again. Most entertaining...found myself watching Challenge TV as a result

A very likely story. You don't have to be embarrassed about watching such content.

Re: Samsung STB changes channl on it's own.
Low remote batteries result in mis-signalling when the remote is used, the most common ones being the TV botton changing channel, and I think the volume buttons to power off.
If it changes when the remote is not in use, then it could be seeing another remote, though IR remotes do not have a huge range and cannot go through walls, or it could be CFL interference.
Another thing, try the CH +/- buttons on the STB and make sure they both work, they might have been knocked and stuck half pressed.

Cheers for the replies, I'll try the batteries and light thing. don't use energy savers in the bedroom, but do have bed side lamps. I do have a MCE remote eye in the same room, could this be the cause?

Re: Samsung STB changes channl on it's own.
Funny that, my Samsung has just started doing exactly the same: changing channel and cycling through about 6 different ones without the remote being used then when I try to put it back to the original channel the remote is locked out for a minute or so, which is really annoying.
It does, however, coincide with the fact I have just changed my TV from a traditional CRT to a 46" 100hz Toshiba HDTV so I have assumed it's high frequency electromagnetic interference from the HDTV that is causing glitches in the Samsung box.
I'm living with it for now as I'm getting V+ installed on Monday so hopefully the V+ boxes are have more robust RF shielding...really really don't want to send my TV back!

Re: Samsung STB changes channl on it's own.
I've had the same problem in the last few months. I've been able to cope with it, but in the last few weeks its gotten worse. The remote just stops working, but then the cable box just starts to change channel then the volume starts going crazy. Now with people stating low batteries or even energy bulbs, I've got brand new batteries in and normal bulbs. The TV is a normal (old) tv lol, so I cant understand what the problem is except for the samsung 2100 box. If the remote isn't working when I want to change the channel I hold down the TV button and thats when it all goes crazy.
I just feel like the remote has lost contact with the cable box and the Tv button gets the connection back and catches up with the commands that you've been trying to press.
I've even looked at the box maybe even overheating so I've moved it twice and it still does it, so the only conclusion I can come up with is the box must have a fault somewhere.
Now if someone could give me a pointer to try and fix this and prove its not a faulty box I'd be very grateful. As I don't really wan to phone up VM CS as I always seem to get through to India

The back lights on LCD Tv's can play havoc with STB boxes remote control sensor if its too close to the TV, if at all possible shield the box from the TV by pushing it further back in the cabinet.
