picture and sound issues

I have a V+ box and HD tv, all connected properly, but some channels mainly BBc ITV, and Living , (the worst), the picture becomes blocky and the sound is intermittent, worse of an evening it seems.........but

if i record the program and watch back via the V+ hard drive everythnig is fine, or record the program and watch at the same time thru the hard drive, all is fine. Is there anything i can try to rectify this, have done the usual reboot of box etc, any one else had this problem, it started a couple of weeks ago

Thanks

Re: picture and sound issues

Hi stevew1,
We might well have completely different problems here, but I have been having a simular problem to you over the last few weeks. I'm mainly getting a blocky picture with the odd sound problem mixed in. So far that I'm aware of its happened to me when watching (LIVE) BBC1, RECORDING ITV1 (my worse) and VOD. From what I can tell it seems to be only during the evening times too.

Having kept an eye on my signal levels, the only thing that I can see that majorly changes are the AGC Signal Level, mine range from 8dBmV to 13dBmV, 10dBmV to 15dBmV, 8dBmV to 13dBmV whereas my SNR's only really range from 32dB to 34dB but mainly stay at 33dB (use to be 34dB, changed ROUND the same time).

I forget when the last box update was but I'm pretty sure it started and has been getting worse not far from there, but other then that I have no idea.

Anyone else getting something like this?

Re: picture and sound issues

It was doing it again this evening on BBC1, BUT when I changed the channel and went back to BBC1 round 9:00 the problem had gone, again showing evening time.

I'm assuming no one else is getting this then?

Hi, was playing with the box last night and trying to find something to watch, around 11pm and nearly every channel had the same problem, breaking picture and sound, far worse than during the day

Re: picture and sound issues

hi stevew1,
Does what I wrote in the following thread ring a bell with your problem: http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/10...n-problem.html

Do you notice one of your AGC Signal Levels going up at least 3dBmV above the other two when watching or recording Living? Which area are you from? I'm from GL52 area.

From what I can tell, in my local area at least, Living causes one of the tuners to go somewhat higher then the others (don't know if it always did this), and if the middle tuner takes care of Living it sometimes starts pixelating on EVERY channel, but for me it mainly triggers if I record ITV1 at the same time (don't know for sure if its JUST with ITV1).

As I said in the other thread, I had my box changed and signals lowered with no change. I will tell the next tech I got coming out on Monday my findings, I'm hoping he might have some kind of idea, eg somethings become loose/damaged outside maybe. But to be honest I have no idea whats wrong but I'm starting to get fed up with it though.

I thought it might have been a bug in the last software update, as we have all seen this kind of thing before, but the fact that not many have replied to these threads suggest its not.

Re: picture and sound issues

Hi,

I live in RM8, essex/London, it was very annoying last nite, i got no idea about the signal levels to be honest, all i know for certain, that is if I record a program that is bad, when i play back it is fine, also if i watch it as being broadcast and view back thru the harddrive at the same time then all is ok

makes no sense what so ever , there must be other people with this problem, or similar

Hi stevew1,
I think your just going to have to call Virgin and go through the process I am. Lets hope they get both of us sorted soon.

Re: picture and sound issues

After watching any BBC channel for about 10 minutes the picture and sound quality deteriorates.

Even occurs on programs recorded on my V+ box.

After the 10 minutes of OK viewing the picture and sound issues occur about once every minute for 15-20 seconds.

Been like this for a couple of weeks now
