Re: Are these ok on my modem config ?

Downstream shouldn't get much higher than that, otherwise yes they are fine.
And for 10Mbit that speed is fine.

Re: Are these ok on my modem config ?

Your speeds are fine, your performance is fine, there are no issues, don't obsess about your service DOCSIS has a wide operating range

That sticky is actually kinda conservative, the operating range for 256QAM DOCSIS is still -15 to +15 and it can work outside those depending on SNR and modem tuner.

Re: Are these ok on my modem config ?

Rather than start a new thread and because I am clutching at straws now (50k [not a typo] download speeds of an evening) - which VM have said I should expect because the internet "gets busy in the evenings".

I'm on 20meg and my modem is a NTL:250 with a part number E08C007 on the bottom (it's a small black thing). if someone would be so kind just to see if anything stands out before I leave for another ISP out of desperation.

Downstream SNR : 39.0 dB

Upstream Lock : Locked

Upstream Symbol Rate : 2560 Ksym/sec
Upstream transmit Power Level : 38.5 dBmV

Network Access : Allowed
Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 20480000
Maximum Upstream Data Rate : 768000
Maximum Upstream Channel Burst : 1600
Maximum Number of CPEs : 1
Modem Capability : Concatenation Enabled, Fragametation Enabled, PHS Disabled

Acquire a Downstream Channel 330750000 Hz Locked

Boot State OK Operationa

As I say, speeds are appalling - I can sometimes scrape 2meg if I am lucky off newsgroups, but other than that I need to be online at maybe 3-4am to get maybe 10meg if I am lucky.

I don't want to leave but they are giving me no choice, simply doing the usual, reboot the modem routine. Speeds have been falling quickly over the last couple of months. Thanks for looking and hope the original poster doesn't mind me jumping in on this.

Looking good.
Could you please open cmd and type: ping -n 10 bbc.co.uk
Paste the full results back.

Re: Are these ok on my modem config ?

Ok, bearing in mind I have a better connection mid-morning, here are the results

destination host unreachable
destination host unreachable
destination host unreachable
destination host unreachable
destination host unreachable
destination host unreachable
destination host unreachable
destination host unreachable
destination host unreachable
destination host unreachable

ping statistics for 212.58.224.138:

packets: sent=10, received = 0, Lost = 10 (100% loss)

Tried that several times with the same result each time.

I am guessing that shouldn't be like that? I usually play on Xbox Live of an evening but my mates have had to ask me to stop joining in because I am getting packet loss and really bad lag and ruining the experience for others (mainly a racing game and my car jerking around the track isn't much fun for everyone else), not the nicest situation having mates have to put you in such a position - but understandable.

Re: Are these ok on my modem config ?

I'm using a router but not, peer guardian?

I did try facebook.com just to see if numbers came up onscreen (even though I don't know what I'm doing and what they mean, and it did give some results).

Let me try again......

I think what I should do is do the same test this evening around 9-10pm and see how it differs. It's the evening when my problems really start.

This is the best result I have just managed to get this evening so far, most other results lost 3 or 4 packets...this is with my laptop connected straight to the modem:
