Government Plans Travel Database
Looks like as well as knowing who you're talking to ( Linky) they want to know where you're going as well.
Quote:
The government is compiling a database to track and store the international travel records of millions of Britons.
Computerised records of all 250 million journeys made by individuals in and out of the UK each year will be kept for up to 10 years.

Re: Government Plans Travel Database
Its going a bit OTT in my opinion - but they are after all UK.gov and can do whatever they like. It is slightly breaking privacy laws I would think. Why would they gather this info anyway (on anyone other than known terrorists/criminals etc? AFAIK the USA doesn't even do that? Though I may be wrong.

its so they can leave the data base on a bus ,this will allow all criminals to know our travel habits thus making it easy to burgle our homes and businesses.

Re: Government Plans Travel Database
Because ever since the Domesday Book the then current government and successive ones have been collating data on us and our doings with a view to working out how much to shaf...errr tax us to keep the coffers full.
I guess they just want to know that they are getting all that is their due and that no one is pulling a fast one..But under the guise of looking for terrorists.
They only go after smugglers because of lost tax revenue after all..not because they care that we smoke or drink ourselves to death..

Re: Government Plans Travel Database
How are they going to know where you are really going Yes they will tell from the ticket you have your initial destination, but who is to say that won't just be a stagi9ng post. Any protection they hope to get from this will just be false security that will create another load of civil service admin non-jobs, rely on another overexpensive doesn't work properly computer system and no doubt create even bigger queues at passport control
Maybe this is just a means by which they could consider implementing flight rationing, something that I heard suggested a while ago under "green policies".

Re: Government Plans Travel Database
When will this stupid government sodding stop with this stuff? Everything we visit online, recorded. Every phone call we make, Recorded. Every E-Mail sent, recorded. Accused of a crime? DNA, Recorded. Now a list of everywhere you have even been?
Why not just install GPS trackers in babies at Birth! Problem solved.

Re: Government Plans Travel Database
This is a government that is obessessed with statistics and now that obsession is expanding to databases on everything while still not being able to adequately safeguard the level of information they hold now let alone all the data they are looking to hold. As for the anti terror aspect come off it GB do you really think any of us believe that rubbish anymore you've well and truly shot that bolt long long ago.
We were told before he got the top job he was a petty control freak and his government has been acting that way for a while. Stop interfering in my lifestyle and stop trying to log every damn aspect of my life and get on with what we elected your party to do as no one had a chance to elect you. I am so sick and tired of this government and sick and tired of the way they are dragging this country down an election cannot come soon enough.
