Wireless download speeds erratic.
Hi. I've searched the forum and can't find an answer to my question, but apologies if it's been asked before.
I've just had VM 2MB BB installed. I'm using a Netgear WGR 614 v9 router (not VM).
My problem is that on both my laptop and netbook the connection speed is consistently just under 2MB. The desktop is sometimes the same, but can drop as low as 300kbps. The desktop runs XP (as does the laptop with the netbook using Linux) with a D-Link DWL G510 wireless PCI card with the latest driver. I've run AVG and Spybot scans and the system appears to be OK. The signal occasionally drops, but even when the download speed is 300 kbps the system tray shows connection speeds of 54 Mbps.
Do you think that this is a problem with the network card? If so I would prefer to stay wireless on the desk top, so what would be a good pairing with the Netgear router?
The other option, as I'm starting to get fed up with faffing with wireless connections, is to go down the home plug / powerline route. Does anybody have any experience or advice on what to choose or avoid?
