Dynamode Router

Hi All

I am new to the site I found you trying to get information on setting up my router.

I have the Dyamode BR-6004 W-G1 802.11 Wireless AP Router. I have followed the instalation guide both with and without the USB but I still have the same difficulty which is I am unable to access the internet. Last night I had the wireless showing as green I was able to access the configuration unit and it said connected and I was able to log in to the 198.168.1 and enter the details I was told to on the manual.

I have also had it showing not only on my pc but also on my daughters lap top, it is showing as default network unsecured it lets me connect to it but again I get the 'this page can not be displayed' message.

I am at the point now where I am thinking of getting someone out but I really don't want to have to pay around Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£50 just for someone to come and configure it if it could be done by me with your help

I would really appreciate any suggestions.

P.S Both PC and laptop is windows xp and the laptop has a wireless connection however the main pc doesn't.

Sorry forgot to mention currently I have a wired network set up on the main pc, and this still shows as connected when the wireless one is (not sure if that was relevant)

First things first, lets get the router working with wired connections. Once that is in place you can look at the wireless setup.

1) If you have made any configuration changes to the router's settings, do a reset to get it back to the default factory settings.
2) On your computer, make sure that the network card setting (control panel > network connections) is to auto detect an IP address
3) In internet explorer tools > options, make sure the connections are set to auto detect, and never dial
4) Power off everything - computers, modem, router.
5) Unplug any USB and ethernet leads connected to the modem.
6) Connect an ethernet lead between the modem and router's WAN (internet) port.
7) Connect an ethernet lead between one of the router's LAN ports and a computer
8) Power on modem, allow to settle, power on router, let settle, power PC, let settle. Hopefully you now have an internet connection.

I actually did a system restore so do I need to run the usb driver cd first as I don't have a wireless card on my pc. I also tried it the way you have said before and I get the intenet showing as connected but am unable to access any pages get the can't display this page message.

You only need the USB driver CD if you are going to connect to the modem direct using the Virgin Media USB adaptor. Since we need to have a reliable ethernet connection running the USB disk isn't needed.

But doesn't the pc I am connecting to not have to have a wireless card installed or something equivilant?

Just a thought it if I do set up router and can not access pc how will I know how to configure router

First of all setup your connection wired between mode <> router <> one PC. For that you don't need wireless. Get the internet connection all working wired first. Once you are happy with that, you can use the wired connection between a PC and router to configure the router's wireless activities. Only then do you need a wireless adaptor for the PC(s) you intend to connect wirelessly.

Simply put by establishing your wired connection between PC via router to the boradband and internet you'll know the router is speaking to the modem correctly. You'll also be able to use your internet browser to access the router's control panel.

How do you currently connect to the modem? Ethernet or USB? If USB, can you get a connection going via ethernet? Remember the modem must be powered off everytime connections to it are swapped.

Hip hip horray I managed it initially it wouldnt let me open internet pages even though it was showing me as connected so I went into misc and restored factory settings the router rebooted and hey presto.... thanks so much. Now next

how do I get the laptop connected it's already wireless. A big thanks again

Wohoo, that was the easy bit getting is setup wired

Firstly you need to configure the router's wireless options, particularly the security settings. You should be able to browse from internet explorer on your wire connected PC to the admin pages of the router. probably 192.168.1.1 or similar (the manual should say). From there go to the wireless configuration. There should be options for SSID which is the name the router would broadcast. Choose something that you'd recognise, but which doesn't give away to much about where you are, say "myhomenet". You then need to setup the security. Depending on the options ideally use WEP2, or possibly WPA. You'll need to enter a preferred password.

Now you are ready for your wireless computer(s). Make sure the wireless card or adaptor is installed and enabled. If you haven't got the computer plugged into a wired connection it should start to scan for networks. If it doesn't right click on the network connections tab wireless and select the connect option. You should get the option to input your password. Hopefully that's it. If your lappy had any preconfigured internet connection settings make sure all that is set to auto.

Nope I can change it to the settngs you said but I am not asked for a password and then when its been changed the I change it to the settings you said the wireless network configuration uses goes red and disconnects. I am showing as being connected to default - unsecured wireless connection, but I have not taken any wires out from the inital set up I am lost now

Leave your wired PC wired for now. Use your daughters laptop to check out the wireless configurations. Thus that should be the one that is wireless.

Ideally configuring the wireless on the router should be exactly the steps that the dynamode manual states. You then just have to match those settings on the wireless connection for the wireless computer. You may need to reboot the wireless computer if it was previously connected wired before you can enter the new wireless setup..

I can't configure this lap top to even have a flipping network whenever I make any changes to the original set ups I get cut off the net

I tried to get the lap top to see the network and it said there was n ip conflict and the wireless utility on main pc went to red.

An IP conflict may mean the laptop already had an IP address allocated to another adapter. Did you have it plugged in wired before you tried to connect wirelessly?

If so, turn the laptop off, disconnect the wired connection & try again...
