Alternative Firmware
Does anyone know of an alternative firmware for a netgear WGR614v6?
There was one guy porting OpenWRT to it, but he lost interest and left the project unfinished.

Re: Alternative Firmware
If it's one sent by VM, please be aware if you do a firmware update, you'll invalidate the 2 year warranty and no support from VM.
I had the v6 a while ago and was unable to update the firmware even with the help of Netgear's 3rd line support.

Re: Alternative Firmware
there is a way to flash it back to standard netgear firmware but I am not going to advise that. If you have a few quid spare and need more access to a routers settings then buy a new one

Re: Alternative Firmware
Standard firmware? It has the standard firmware, its not a VM supplied router. Those are 614v9's not v6's.
The problem is, the standard netgear firmware is buggy, logging doesnt work for example, nor does keyword blocking, etc. So I was hoping that there was something akin to DD-WRT available for it.

Hence the If, at the start of the sentence meaning what I said only applied if it was a VM supplied Netgear router.
I have a WGR614v7 with the original firmware, never had any issues, have you tried the Netgear site?

Re: Alternative Firmware
I was responding to zinglebarb
But in answer to your question, yes, I even phoned up netgears technical support a long while ago, last year if memory serves, and they admitted there are issues, but v6 is no longer having the firmware developed. They emailed me an early beta firmware, and told me to roll back to that, and it did fix some of the issues but not all of them.
I recently flashed it back to the lastest firmware, hoping that perhaps the bugs had been fixed, and they haven't, hence me wanting a 3rd party firmware.

Re: Alternative Firmware
I'd harass them Milambar, how long have you had the router?
If not that long, tell them you would expect them to give you another model that doesn't have these bugs in the firmware.
