Subaru pull out of the WRC!!

O dear, First Suzuki, now Subaru.

Quote:
Subaru has announced its decision to withdraw from the 2009 World Rally Championship.

Prodrive, the company which runs the team on behalf of Subaru, broke the news at 0900hrs this morning. It said the decision was sudden and had been made in response to the economic downturn currently affecting the automotive industry.

Re: Subaru pull out of the WRC!!

Prodrive are hoping to return in 2010..Jenna thinks they might go for the rights for the McRae rally car....But without talking to Dave it's just guesswork...

Jenna also says that Ford is thinking of withdrawing as well

Re: Subaru pull out of the WRC!!

Ah yes, but the problem was the rules going to be imposed on customer cars, if they buy they Honda outfit then they would be fine.

Re: Subaru pull out of the WRC!!

With the downturn of the whole industry I don't think that prodrive would go it alone in buying out Honda but instead would need either an engine partner or a substantial money backer like when they bought out AM

Re: Subaru pull out of the WRC!!

Unless they already have sponsors lined up? I guess we will have to wait and see, still a shame for the WRC.

Re: Subaru pull out of the WRC!!

The thing is that prodrive doesn;t need the honda team name...they've already been the main driving force behind the teams aerodynamics, management and other projects with Honda just supplying the fianancing, team name and engines... Prodrive could just as easily get a new engine company and main sponsor and start thier own team that way without paying for a useless name
