No-Contest Contest

Hi guys,

Just saw the usual Virgin Media "There are two main types of broadband" ad on TV. Tapped on the end was a free trial offer which ended with "Come on Edinburgh" on the screen in the VM ad style - quite lavish.

It also invites viewers to go to:
http://www.virginmedia.com/nocontest

This seems to be an Edinburgh specific thing. Is there a lot of spare capacity on VM in Edinburgh? I don't really understand why they would do this here. Has anything similar been done by VM anywhere else in the UK?

Stuart.

Re: No-Contest Contest

It's a trial only available in Edinburgh. May go national later.

Re: No-Contest Contest

How is this any different to any normal one?

I think them calling it a 30 day trial is the zing here.

Quote:
Test ours against yours for free. No strings. No contract. No contest.

We're offering you a 30 day, no strings attached free trial. We'll do all the set up so it's hassle free, and you can keep your current broadband up and running so you can see the difference for yourself.
You can keep your current broadband up and running anyway it's not exclusive to this one.
you also get a free trial anyway. it's just called a 28 day money back guarantee where they will refund any money paid.

They will probably bring in more hamsters for your first 30 days, and then send them home once the contracts been signed

Re: No-Contest Contest

Moneyback guarantee requires you to actually pay, cancel and request a refund. 30 day free trial requires none of this.

Does it just stop then at the end of the 30 day trial and they come and pick the equipment up? or do you have to contact them, cancel and request removal, or contact them and request a contract?

if you don't want to keep it after the 30-day trial, you don't have to do anything, it'll just be disconnected automatically.

At the end of the 30 day free trial period, if you do not wish to continue to receive Virgin Broadband then you don't need to do anything. Your services will automatically be cancelled
That's interesting. what's the bets they keep phoning the people up towards the end of the 30 days saying do you want it? you know you want it, say you want it!

and we'll throw in the phone and freeview for free!
