Installing Microsoft Office 2007

After running 2003 for many years without any problems, decided to buy the 2007 version.
Would I have to completely remove 2003 from the system first, or can the 2007 version be installed over it?? Just thought I'd run it past you very knowledgeable people on here first

Re: Installing Microsoft Office 2007

Personally I would uninstall Office 2003, first, as apparently 2007 uses a 'new' file format - you would just need to ensure any documents/files you want to keep are backed up.

- something I've yet to try, though, as my HUP version of office 2007 hasn't arrived yet.

I did wonder about that, but didn't know how the file associations would work - afaik 2003 won't open 2007 format files, hence why I suggested a fresh install ???

Re: Installing Microsoft Office 2007

some 2003 files need to be adapted after opening them with 2007 also. Imo it may be worth keeping original 2003 format files.

If there is a file association problem that can easily be rectified by using open with and directing to office 12 instead of 11

Re: Installing Microsoft Office 2007

2003 won't open 2007 documents, but you can keep/save all your 2007 documents as 2003 compatible

If you install 2007 overwriting 2003 and don;t like 2007 then you can uninstall, reinstall 2003 and all your setting should stay the same

another good point, sounds like the 'overwrite' option will be the best one

Re: Installing Microsoft Office 2007

Office 2003 does open 2007 documents, when the Office Compatibility Pack is installed.

Re: Installing Microsoft Office 2007

The first thing I do when I install MSOffice 2007 is go to options and set the save options to Word 97-2003.
Word, Excel, and Powerpoint all have new versions so to make sure people can go to work and open their documents in 2003, I set them up so it is compatible with previous version.
