VM Rapidshare problem..
OK I'm on Virgin Media 20MB broadband and recently, Rapidshare has been playing up for me. I start a download using FlashGet, and after around 700MB or so, it just stops downloading. After this, I open up the Rapidshare homepage in my browser, and its just hangs at 'Connecting to server...' I have to wait for an hour or so until I can get the site to load again, and with that the downloads also start up again, and then it works for around another 700MB before the problem reoccurs.
The weird thing is that I can actually access the Rapidshare homepage if I go through a proxy when it's down for me normally, which leads me to believe that it's somehow related to my ISP. Is anyone having similar problems, or does anyone know if there is a way to sort it out?
Thanks.

Re: VM Rapidshare problem..
It's not a SA modem, its one of those silver-cased ntl:home 200 modems.
I went to the address you stated and found:
Downstream Frequency : 586750000 Hz
Downstream Receive Power Level : -9.4 dBmV
Not sure if that's what you were looking for though.

Re: VM Rapidshare problem..
Upstream Frequency : 25800000 Hz
Upstream Transmit Power Level : 50.50 dBmV
Downstream SNR : 29.4 dB
Couldn't find the SNR for upstream.

Re: VM Rapidshare problem..
Oh right, OK. Thanks. I will probably try that. But my internet connection, apart from the Rapidshare problems I've stated, seems to be generally perfect. I don't know if that means anything though. Does SNR only really affect Rapidshare?

Re: VM Rapidshare problem..
It's not his SNR causing problems; it's within the acceptable range as far as I can tell. Could you do a traceroute to Rapidshare.com when the problem occurs so that we can see where it's timing out? Put "tracert rapidshare.com" at the command line, minus the quotes.

Heres the Traceroute, while Firefox hangs at 'Waiting for Rapidshare.com' and then gives a Page Load Error:

Re: VM Rapidshare problem..
Yeah its Rabid share, its happened to me a couple of times in the past week.
Its downloaded to about 80% & just stopped, set it going again, and alls well.
Do remember reading somewhere that they've been adding / upgrading their servers & such, though i've no idea when everything's supposed to return to normal..

That's what I thought at first, but then I tried accessing the Rapidshare website through a proxy, and it worked like a charm, while it still has problems accessing directly. This indicates that all is good at their end. It's just something in between.
Also, yeah it's quite funny how it tends to just stop when something is about to finish downloading. Twice now I've had downloads hang at 99%! Ridiculous.

Re: VM Rapidshare problem..
It looks like your traceroute is getting through to Rapidshare, ashfaqrasul. Have you tried pausing your download then resuming it, so that the Download Manager disconnects then reconnects?

Re: VM Rapidshare problem..
AHHH!!! i used to have this with Thundernews...
I cancelled my account with them and went with GIGANEWS and have had no issues since..
it just stops 3 quarters of the way through the download. or at like 80 or 90%
and stays there till you like refresh the download or DC from the newsgroup then Reconnect..
thats not ur BB .. sorry i forgot NTL's SNR is a tad different

Re: VM Rapidshare problem..
Yeah, this has just happened to me. Downloading a large amount from Rapidshare, then I get timeouts after about half an hour of sustained downloading. It may be STM fiddling with the connection, since Rapidshare accepts the connection attempt, but no actual data is downloaded.
