Problems with 4mb Internet Connection

Firstly, I would like to say thank you and hello to everyone from this community,- over the past year you guys have provided me with a wealth of help.

However, over the past three weeks I have consistently been troubled by my Virgin Media connection. When it comes to downloading files I find that they halt on the very last few percent,- mainly at around 88-99%.

These problems have been occurring under:- Internet Explorer and Firefox. Without My router and with my router. After re-booting the cable modem and/or my pc.

The main problem is I am unable to download attachments from my work email address, meaning I am now confined to working an extra hour (sometimes more) as I can only read and reply to emails with an attachment at work; which is a vital part of my job.

Having said that my Upload and Download speeds have always remained what they should be, and as I expect them to be.

Additional Information:-

This is happening on my media centre, Work laptop and home Pc. This issue remains present on both Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox. There seems to be no time which it does not occur. Though, typically at around 7am and about 9pm. (Times which I am home from work).

What email client do you use (or is it just Hotmail/Gmail/etc)?

Re: Problems with 4mb Internet Connection

We use both Outlook Web Access and Outlook Express (included with Office 2007).
However, I’m also finding this to be an issue with any download from any website around 90% of the time.
Whilst at work I am able to use my work laptop (and their connection) to download attachments which therefore leads me to believe that it is my internet connection.
Im not bothered about downloading more bothered about being unable to open email attachments!
Damn you Virgin!

I presume you are on a Motorola Cable Modem as your logs are not to dis similar to my own posted below, could you please post the Downstream and Upstream power levels from the Signal Tab please.
=================================================

our logs are actually quite normal, because when a modem is rebooted it receives every single update that was ever issued for that modem required or not.

Check my own logs, I even have logs with the year 1970 in them!.

Those power levels are within the operational parameters of your modem any fault must lie elsewhere.

Have thought of using a Googlemail account and having mail forwarded to it as the capacity is 6500Mb.

Re: Problems with 4mb Internet Connection

It's not just a problem im having with downloading from outlook, its any download, from any one of my systems, with or without a router. Whilst at work (using the same laptop) everything works as expected.
So therefore, the problem must lie somewhere with Virgin?

I have the same modem and is a solid bit of kit, the cause of the fault must lie elsewhere possibly high utilisation on your UBR.

If you can wait till 1 June you can ring up for free and find out.
