Post Recording from V+

Hi,
I'm new to this, appreciate some advice.
I want to burn a DVD from the V+ ( I assume you use SCART between recorder & V+).

If the V+ recording was transmitted in HI Def will it burn onto a standard DVD?

If you then have 'upscaling' on the DVD recorder I assume you can then utilise the HDMI O/P.

Will this ( assuming it's possible give a decent picture on a 32" set)?.

Regards
Steve

First of all. to the forums Steve.
 • You will need to connect a scart cable from the lower of the 2 scart sockets on your V+ to your DVD recorder then follow the instructions given when you press the v+ button on your remote.
 • If you have recorded in HD then that will be what is sent to your recorder. Whether you can transmit the programme back in HD will AFAIK depend on the capabilities of your recorder. (Note that HD recording take up more HD/DVD space than SD programmes.)
 • I have used a 32" TV and had a decent picture...again this will depend on the capabilities of your TV.
 • I'm not sure of the answer to your HDMI point. No doubt someone will be along who can help you on that one. or put me right if I have given duf information about anything else.

Before you do anything though have a look at our FAQ thread which you can find here.

ADD...... Could any passing mod put this thread over on to the V+ section.

Steve

On your point about recording Hi Def the problem you face is that once you record onto your V+ box then you need to transfer the recording onto a Hi Def recordable units and the only way you can do this is via HMDI cable and not scart. Noting there is only one HMDI output on the V+ unit anyway. You should also note that Hi Def recording don’t like playing unless via an HMDI cable, so I am not sure how that would work once you have transferred the recording.

I have played around and tried various options, but so far not managed to transfer a Hi Def recording; I still find the basic upscalling, via scart, sufficient for my needs. I will just have to wait until they (Pioneer, Sony, Panasonic) bring out a decent hard drive / recordable disc unit that can take Hi Def content whether via HDMI input optional, so you can edit (loose the commercials) and record onto disc in Hi Def.

I have no doubt someone will correct me about such a product.

Re: Recording from V+

Just to verify

If you record from scart you won't be getting H/Def recording or upscaling

It will be std recording and realistically quite poor, since the VCR out on V+ is not even RGB, it's poorer composite connection

Only way to get Hi-def (or upscaled S/Def) would be via HDMI - and what you end up with will depend on your recording kit
