Forget Sky News on cable - let's have France24 newschannel instead please

while surfing around for the best live TV coverage of the trials, tribulations and progess of the Olympic Torch Flame over the past 3 days I've discovered France24 online and compared it with Sky News onlide

France24 is a great news channel - far fresher, better news and much more interesting commentaters

it's a true International News channel - not at all French - the newscasters and informative commentators all speak excellent English

Hello >>>> Virgin Bosses could you please cease all negotiations with SkyNews and broadcast France24 instead ?

absolutely not - I believe there may be a French version somewhere or other where they probably all or mostly speak French - but the online version I got was ALL in English and spoken by really well informed newcasters - the commentaters they interviewed were all really knowledgeable

there may have been an occasional slight gallic pronounciation to some word or phrase but that just adds to it's charm - esp when spoken by the well attractive female anchor

surley it must be cheaper to do a deal with France24 rather than bother with that £££££ Sky operation

let's have France24 - tres vite ci il est possible mom amis de Virgin

Ramjet: the English language version of France24, currently on Sky, is due to shut down shortly on the orders of the French president. He didn't think it was French enough for his liking. So, the likely hood of this coming to cable is zero.

News provision is low on cable and it's nice for things like the "flame issue" to get different perspectives from different news channels. I don't agree with you that VM should abandon attempts to get Sky's channels back.

Je agree sur un point

there is nothing at all French about le news on France24 - if it were all about French news obsessions in French no one would watch it

I suspect even those in France would watch CNN or SkyNews instead where they could at least get unbiased news in English

boo to le French President - je suis going to email him

If I remember correctly we did used to get some content from France24 on the "more on demand" button, the one after "TV choice", but they seem to have withdrawn it now, shame really it showed great coverage of the French presidential elections.

no it isint the english version is available throughout europe as are the french & arabic etc versions which have been on air for time. not everyone in europe speaks french hence why they launched the channel in other languages. so it wont just stop all of its other channels & just keep the french one.

however im not that bothered if it comes to VM or not as im planning on installing a mini dish myself so that i can get the FTA channels on Sky using my old Sky receiver. plus i'l get Zone Thriller, Zone Romantica, Movies 4 Men, True Movies 2, CCTV-9 & all of the other FTA channels. the only reason that i dont have a Sky subscription is cuz i dont & cant have a BT land line.

I prefer EuroNews.Much of it has no commentary and the viewer can use their own intelligence.Nice not to have someone pointing out the obvious.as well.

more ppl watch BBC World actually, viewing figures show that its one of the most watched channels in the world as is MTV. Sky News doesnt even come close, however CNN is up there but is biased & always has been.

Re: Forget Sky News on cable - let's have France24 newschannel instead please

well I for one hope the english language version won't get axed - it's a really good news channel

I suppose if they want to axe the French language version for being too English that's up to them - but the people in charge should keep the English version for the good of the world generally

just about everybody on the planet has English as 1st 2nd or 3rd language - over 1.5 billion worldwide according to estimates !

anyway let's hope Virgin get in onbandwidth soon so we can check it out

there don't seem to be many news channels on cable :-(

as i say it'd be very unlikely that they'd ax the english version as it is available around the world & is well respected.
