£18 for 2MB BB

Hi currently on Virgin 2mb but was only playing £10 this has now jumped to & £18. What are your thoughts on BT home Hub or Sky. I have only BB With Virgin now as I got rid of my phone and TV service and I’ve always had BT ass our main phone.

I’m quite happy to pay £10 for this service but £18 is seriously not worth it. My neighbour is on BT Home Hub for 8mb service and he gets around 5-6Mb in reality. But I’m also getting offers from Sky BB as well.

So I gave Virgin a call and the guy would not budge said it had now moved to £18 so I’m looking into getting either BT home hub which would give the added bonus of the laptop wireless that we don’t have connected just now to the cable plus a phone that is an grade to our current BT one.

We've just tested your line and can confirm your line supports the UK's most complete broadband package, BT Total Broadband and we can confirm that you will be able to reach a maximum download speed of 5.5 (Megabits per second). BT

Sky has this! if the Bt says 5MB does that mean Sky will be limited to this? my echange merylee has been upgraded!

Hello Sav112, i have 4MB for £12.49.
Just call them and say you can get upto 8MB for less than £18 elsewhere.

Ask them to lower it. Go here to check prices etc. http://www.broadband-finder.co.uk/co...broadband.html

Anyone paying more than £10 for 2 mb are getting ripped of, even me on 4MB. Though stick with Virgin as i hardly have any problems and no download limit. If you can find a broadband with a high download, or a No download limit, that and the price is good to negotiate with Virgin.

Hope this helps.

Re: £18 for 2MB BB

Hello Sav112, have had this price for over a year now, in fact, its £12.07 a month.

You might get better especially with all the lower offers now out there.

Just give them a call, be prepared to negotiate. Arm yourself with prices inc download limit, and price, unlimited download would be good, or over 40 MB at least

Post back and let others know.

Re: £18 for 2MB BB

The reason Sky and BE* are saying your line can support higher speeds than BT is becuase they use the Newer ADSL2+ modulation where as currently BT are using ADSL.

Depending on your usage levels would determine which is the best value for money.

I'm phoning on Monday, so its either Virgin do a good deal or probably "Be" as i kep reading good things aout them...

There's always Value @£14/pm if you only want 8Mbit
Might also be worth looking at o2 since they now own the network be* use anyway.

Be had some issues in some areas of London with congestion recently but i've not seen much on the offical forum since Barking exchange was upgraded so I think for the most part it's sorted now. Probably best to check over at thinkbroadband and see what people are saying about Various ISP's

Re: £18 for 2MB BB

It’s just the usual this Month everything that come through the door is just a note to say “Hi we are raising our prices from this month” and the Bb that was on £10 jumping to £18 for 2mb is just a non starter.

I never thought I’d leave Virgin completely after being with NTL for go knows something like 15 years. But the TV went last year to sky Digital (great move) from Analogue and looks like the BB is going as well if there is not a good deal.

The way I always look at it – well the Money will gladly be taken by a competitor every month and its there loss…….

i'll take a look at Value as well, thanks...

Hello Sav112, the £12 is just for Broadband. I have TV (M) & Phone with 24hr call any number 01/02 for £7.95 a month. Special deal for tv package, though will drop it down to what comes free with Phone maybe in August??

But that should not stop them from giving you a lower price just for BBand, business is business, you/they never know, you might become a Phone and TV customer of Virgin.

You can if you want to tomorrow, ask virgin to give you 20MB for the same price. £18

Re: £18 for 2MB BB

Shocking I’m now disconnecting after many years with Virgin\Ntl. Don’t get me wrong the guy on the other side of the phone was great apart from the fact he could offer nothing to me apart from some £15 2MB package because that is all I have.

So it looks like sky or Be will be getting my Monthly payment. Very frustrated as after I explained all the deals I would have sounded a right prat to accept that there was no offer and I should stay sort of thing.

So basically as of 26th April I’m disconnected from Virgin BB – Not what I wanted at all but looking at it I was pushed rather than jumped. Why a company would wish to loose custom over basically BB speed amazes me!

If he could have offered My friends speed of 4Mb for £12 I’d have been happy even 4Mb at £15 at a push.

That’s me gone from £34 a month to Virgin to £0 is that really what the company wants to do?

Re: £18 for 2MB BB

That’s virgin phoned me on my Bt line, that’s a new one anyway a nice girl Jemma just offered me my old deal back…….of 2mb for £10

So now I don’t know what I’m doing, just spent the last week looking into “Be” 8mb service wireless ADSL2 service, till she phoned there.

Options

Stay on 2mb £10 Virgin for at least six months….I get the 2mb
Move to “BE” 8mb ADSL2 service - prob 6mb after overheads? £24 connection fee plus another £20 odd for wirless card for PC.
Sky 16MB £10….God knows what id get on this.

I’ve never had ADSL so concerned it wont be as solid, plus I’d rather have a cat cable than wireless.
Truthfully if Be was solid for games I’d love there upload for FM08 Clan game I host.

You do know the Be Supplied router has a 4 Ethernet ports right?
You don't have to use wireless, infact if you wanted to you can turn the wireless part of it off.

Actually if you want to you can even turn the NAT part of it off giving a direct connection to the internet for how-ever many devices you have external IP's for (bridge mode) infact I run mine in this mode and use a wrt54GL to do the NAT/Firewall/QOS/Wireless
