Suffice it to say here that Phorm is, in the eyes of many, a company which in previous incarnations has been involved with spyware type activities. Phorm are now linked with three major UK ISPs, BT, Carphone Warehouse (Talk Talk) and Virgin Media, and are repordedly in talks with others. Phorms system would place additional kit with the ISP that scans all your web browsing habits, apparently annonymises this, and based on this would enable websites that take Phorms advertisment content to serve users with adverts "relevant" to the users browsing history. It is the potential for use and abuse of this scanning data that has users up in arms with significant privacy concerns.
