Red Ken backs another loser.
It appears the council tax payer's no1 enemy Red Ken feels that disgraced athlete Linford Christie is worthy of being allowed to carry the Olympic Torch on it's way to the opening of the 2012 London Olympics.

I'm not sure this is setting the right sort of example is it but having said that, since when did Livingstone care about such formalities?

I wouldn't say supposedly. He did stand up to Maggie, and got some good deals for London in the process (the Fair's Fair scheme of free bus travel being one). Still, you are right, he is a muppet.

How many left wingers are in 'New Labour'? I know you have got the likes of Tony Benn and Dennis Skinner, but what about new and up comming left wingers? Most seem to be either centre or centre right with regards to ideology.

Re: Red Ken backs another loser.
Apparently Christie's not doing it now but I don't suppose Livingstone will admit he was wrong will he.

Yep on the radio this afternoon I heard Christie's agent read out the invitation from Livingstone on air. Apparently now it's being claimed that although he signed the letter he didn't really know what it was about.....

An image of Radar & Colonel Blake from M.A.S.H. came to mind when I read that.

Re: Red Ken backs another loser.
The question now should really be what Mr Livingstone considers to be the worst...
Is it worse to:
1. Hold a position of responsibility and stature and delegate badly without any thought or regard ?
2. Deny they did #1 ?
3. When caught out on #2, Admit #1 and while doing so admit to signing a document that he had not read or understood ?
And this is all on a matter of something rather trivial, what if this was in regards to something of far more importance than just the largest national athletics sporting event held every leap year ?
Personally I think he should not slam the door on the way out, he is obviously several flights of stairs above his station, as are about 95% of them. He could easily apply for a job at the nearest cemetery though...

Or...
4. Lie, squirm and blame everything on a right-wing conspiracy perpetuated by the Evening Standard and Daily Mail.
We all know what happened when the decided.
Red Ken: Who should we have to carry the olympic torch? Has to be someone black or ethnic minority.
Old-socialist-mate-of-Red-Ken's: Err.. Linford Christie?
Red Ken: He's black isn't he? Perfect, let's do it.
