Pace STB Going Mental

Hi.

The past few days our 5 year old Pace DI4000 STB has been giving us problems.

When we use the channel buttons on the remote control the STB is frequently doing one of the following:

a) jumping to random channels including weird channel numbers such as SVOD_1 and another channel which seems to be a test channel.

b) displaying error messages stating that we do not have access to certain channels (think it's a 1010 error) and also stating that it must update some settings.

We have changed the batteries twice in the past day (the ones in at the moment are fully charged re-chargeables) but the only way to get things working (for a while anyway) is to pull the plug on the STB.

It's bad enough that we have to reset the box nearly every day to get the channel information working but this is starting to get really annoying.

Does anybody have an idea what might be causing this and can offer a solution or do I need to get an engineer out? I'm also thinking about changing to a V+ box while the install is at £75.00 which I might even try to get for free as they are charging me £17 per month for a 1MB broadband connection.

Cheers,
Kev

There has been many faults with the Pace set top boxes since the software upgrade to VM. If you are considering getting a V+ box then if your going to be putting the old box in a different room I would pull them up about it as the box shouldn't be doing this and I don't think it is anything to with the remote.

Re: Pace STB Going Mental

Ben.

Thanks for your reply.

I must admit that apart from having to keep on resetting the box to get the programme information, which i'm sure also occurred when it was NTL, we really haven't had any problems since the Virgin change-over.

If we upgrade to V+ we probably won't keep the old box as the outside of our house is tiled and when we had broadband installed the guy said he couldn't run the cable up to where we wanted it (we had to run a long cat5 cable through the house).
