SmallWorld
Anyone know anything about SmallWorld? According to their website, they're offering 30MB broadband. Not in my area yet though. Maybe this could be a VM competitor?

Re: SmallWorld
Never heard of them and considering ADSL2+ will only deliver UP TO 24meg (and thats like if you sit next to the exchange) I can't see how they can claim that?

Re: SmallWorld
They claim to have their own cable network so it won't rely on ADSL by the looks of it. They do use (unbundled) ADSL for the "Up to 20mb" service however

Small World is the new name for WightCable North which was the new name for the cable TV provider OMNE based out of Scotland. The new network runs from the south of Glasgow through Ayrshire, Dumfries and Galloway, and from Carlisle across Cumbria to Lancaster and Morecambe. It will eventually pass 325,000 homes plus 25,000 businesses and public sector organisations. Potentially, over 1 million people will be able to enjoy the benefits of real choice and more value in their telephone service, plus interactive digital TV with lots more channels and high speed Internet. Because it's broadband based ( ie Fibre connections / IP Digital based ), the network can meet the needs of everyone who wants more reliable and cost-efficient communications, information and entertainment - today and in the years ahead. Once constructed they will be able to offer HD DTV channels, Interactive TV, PSTN ( Telephone ) connections and Broadband Internet connection from 512k to 30MB.

Re: SmallWorld
They appear to be building their own cable network (seemingly Scotland only atm), where they can offer 30 meg (remember if it's not supplying analogue TV, Virgin's network can, in theory, go over 50).
In other areas, they are looking at offering a LLU ADSL2+ service at 20 meg.

Re: SmallWorld
Cant compete as they dont provide services in the same area - Future acquisition for VM no doubt, they are probably planning on using all the money they save not paying us bonus's every year.

They are not a national provider, they are in fact the only other Cable Franchise operator in the UK to Virgin Media.
They are owned by Wight cable, the cable provider for the Isle of Wight. They were formerly known as Wight Cable North and Omne cable.
They have a few small franchises in the West of Scotland, Carlisle and Lancaster. If you don't live in these areas you wont be able to receive their products.
