virgin media, regular browser drops, certain websites
Hi,
First post here, it looks like a very useful forum
I've been having this problem for a long time now (NTL/virgin media)
Basically, every 30-40 mins, i get the page not loading in any browser on my pc for certain websites (most based on same IP). This lasts for approx 5mins and then i can access them fine.
I can't access ftp (port 21) either during these drops. But i can keep a persistant connection on ssh (port 22)
I can ping the IPs and i can also ping the domain names - no packet loss. I can also traceroute too.
It isn't the server where the sites are hosted, and i have tried disabling my kerio pers firewall and also avast anti virus (no effect)
My ISP won't look into it claiming they haven't had 100 customers with the same fault
Any suggestions?

Do you have problems accessing other sites (bbc, microsoft, for example) when you have problems accessing these certain websites.
Can you post some web addresses that you have a problem with.

Re: virgin media, regular browser drops, certain websites
I'm having the same problem with Virgin Media with longer durations.
I was locked out of a site (.NET Vbulletin forum) for almost 3 weeks. At the same time I was unable to access another site.
Eventually after 3 weeks, I realised I could access the sites only at random periods, then it would return the usual browser error again for the rest of the day.
Whenever I'm locked out of one site, I'm locked out of the other, so they must have something in common.
There are no other websites I've came across to date apart from those mentioned above that I've been unable to access.

I'm in contact with someone at VM about this. So far i have installed some pc software to check which ports are in fact not working when this occurs....i'll keep this thread updated with the results.

Re: virgin media, regular browser drops, certain websites
I was given some proxy server info to enter into my browser.
Works well and solves the problem, though not the most ideal solution...
I've asked for port check software. They took about 2 week to reply via email. I'll probably phone sometime soon.
