Question Sound.. PC to PC speaker and to LCD

Here's what I got.

PC using onboard sound at the moment connected to the PC speakers.

I also have output to the 26" via DVI to HDMI which doesnt support sound.

So here's what I want, 3.5mm jack from the PC, then split with source going to the PC speakers via 3.5mm and to the TV via phono, and here the problem lies. I do not want the source going to the TV when it doesnt need to, IE: when the TV is not being used for HD sourced from the PC I dont want the sound reaching the PC. If you get my drift. Some sort of switch is required which would either cut the ground to the TV or by some other means cut the signal.
I can use a soldering iron
Any suggestions would be welcome. Even if there is a product that is readily availiable to buy would be worth looking at.

TIA

Al

Re: Sound.. PC to PC speaker and to LCD

I'd connect the left and right audio to the center set of a DPDT (double pole double throw switch) and use the other two sets for PC or TV. Keep all the ground returns connected to reduce interference. Put it into a little box and make the connectors as needed. http://tinyurl.com/2mgy85

Very quick sketch attached.

That 2 Way Stereo Speakers Switch Box looks like it should do the job, my only concern would be if it had load resistors inside to balance the 4 ohm/8 ohm load that it would expect from an amplifier speaker output. Line out from a PC is normally 47000 ohm (if I remember correctly).
